SpeedFiler for Outlook

SpeedFiler for Outlook

A new, still-in-beta add-in for Outlook called SpeedFiler promises to address some of the more annoying aspects of working with the flood of e-mail many of us receive in our Outlook inbox. SpeedFiler from Claritude Software was obviously designed by someone who faces many of the issues heavy e-mail users face and, unlike other solution that do everything automatically, SpeedFiler's approach is to expedite things without taking control away from you. SpeedFiler's toolbar allows you to:

  • Quickly file received messages and even mark them as read on the fly

  • File outgoing messages in the folder you prefer (instead of dumping everything you send into the standard Sent Items folder)

  • Easily find and jump to any folder in your Outlook system

  • Automatic prompt to file sent messages after you hit "Send"

  • Select an alternative Sent Items folder if you prefer to use a different folder than Outlook's default for all sent messages

SpeedFiler is free to try while in beta. No pricing information is available yet for the official version. You have the option to either download the free beta anonymously or, if you provide an e-mail address, Claritude promises a discount when the official release becomes available. The add-in works with Outlook 2000, XP, or 2003.

Claritude was founded by Itzy Sabo, a longtime Getting Things Done practitioner who decided a lightweight tool to help manage e-mail was just what was needed to make GTD easier to implement and use. The results look promising. Itzy also has a blog with some great e-mail and GTD-related productivity tips.
