Wired News on Getting Things Done

Wired News has an article and sidebar about Getting Things Done today in which David Allen, Merlin Mann and I are quoted. The articles were written by Robert Andrews and I think he did a great job capturing why GTD has become so popular with geeks, gadget freaks, and early adopters (I am a card-carrying member of all three of these groups).

Fun stuff. My favorite quote from the article is David's observation about his personal unease in accepting the mantle of "guru" but why, ultimately, it helps increase awareness of the book and methods:

"To some degree, I'd rather just slip away unnoticed, because the message is really the process, not the person," he said. "My favorite gurus are the ones who are least concerned with being a guru, and that's what I aspire to."

But Allen acknowledges that keeping a low profile isn't the best way to sell books, noting:

"A while ago we discovered that it's easier for people to buy into a personality than a process, so what the heck?"

UPDATE: David Allen has posted the original e-mail interview transcript on his blog. Excellent reading that gives a lot more insight into his vision of GTD and why it continues to enjoy such popularity, especially in the tech sector. I'm going to clean up my interview transcript with Robert Andrews and will post it later tonight or tomorrow.
