After months of telling myself I didn't need one or want one, I finally caved in and got a Treo 650. Why? Power cords and pockets. On my recent trip to Seattle, I had so many power cords, chargers, and synchronization cables with me that my bag must have looked like a cable and wiring saleman's sample case. And between my cheapie prepaid cell phone, PDA, Moleskine, and NoteTaker wallet I was feeling rather sherpa-like.
So many of my firends are using the Treo 650 and keep telling me it's the best converged device yet. I have tried the Blackberry and Sidekick in the past and, while I like both, they did not sync well with Outlook (no category support at the time - I believe both have solved that now). The Palm OS is a known quantity to me as I've used it for years. Oh, and I won't miss Graffiti - I essentially ceased using it when I got the Tablet PC.
We'll see how it goes. Right now I'm still in set up mode learning everything this device can do. Once I assessed the included software, I'll decide if I need to add any of the third-party tools I've become accustomed to using. Based on the few calls I made yesterday, the sound quality (both in normal and speakerphone mode is quite good. Text messaging with my daughter (who lives in SMS the way I do in e-mail) was a snap.
It should be a nice day today. I'll try to take a few shots with the camera to see how that works (my expectations are low based on what I've seen on other sites). Of course the very first thing I did was subscribe to a number of Treo-related blogs so I can learn from those who have gone before me. My favorites so far? Palmsolo and Treonauts - hands down. Great writing, excellent advice and extensive colections of posts to read through.

1. You'll love the Treo it's a fantastic device. Interestingly, the Palmsolo guy recently dumped Palm and got a Dell Pocket PC and a Tablet PC. We gadget hounds are never satisfied.:)
