James Fallows has a great piece in the
NY Times (free registration required) about tools for organizing your thoughts and focuses on
MindManager and ResultManager - two tools
I've been a vocal advocate of. Fallows mixes in a bit of Getting Things Done reference (necessary since GTD was a major
impetus for the development of ResultManager) and provides a great overview of how visual idea mapping can provide a
very different and very effective way to capture, organize, and share ideas.
Fallows' summary is priceless: "Both of these visually oriented and, therefore, right-brain programs take getting used
to and require tinkering to bring out their best. That is why my left brain accepts them, too."
