EverNote update: Web Clipper and improved printing

A new release of the public beta of EverNote adds the ability to capture snippets or entire web pages (IE only) and improved printing capabilities. EverNote is an ink-enabled note taking application that does not require the Tablet PC OS (but works fine on Tablets) that displays notes in a timeline organized "tape". Notes can be organized by auto-assigned and manually created categories and other metadata. EverNote is currently a free download during the public beta. Here's a complete list of the new features in the current release:

  • Web Clipper: You can now customize your top Button Bar in Internet Explorer (IE) to include an "Add to EverNote" button that instantly exports highlighted content or the entire web page to a new EverNote note. You can also highlight content in IE and right-click to use a new "Add to EverNote" command.

  • Printing: The EverNote Print and Print Preview capabilities have been enhanced including high resolution printing of ink notes, the ability to print template notes, and mouse-wheel and keyboard support for page viewing in Print Preview.

  • Changing Note Date: Two new commands have been added to let you change the date of a note. Simply right-click on the Note Bar of any old note and choose Add to add a new note that immediately follows the old one. Or right-click any Note Bar and choose Change Date to assign any date you want to the current note.

  • Assign selected Manual categories to new notes: A new Tools option has been added: Now, when you click on the New Note button after filtering your tape by a Manual category, EverNote will automatically assign the viewed Manual categories to the new note. (To remove, simply use the note's Stamp button.)

  • Note Place-holding: No more "losing your place". Now, when a note is selected and you change to a category (or All Notes display) containing that note, you'll no longer be sent to the end of the tape. Instead, you'll still see your selected note, surrounded by the notes immediately before and after the notes stored in the category (or All Notes view) that you switched to.

  • New Note Position: In Tools>Options>Tape, you now have the ability to choose from three positions where new notes will be located on the tape after you click the New Note button: Top, middle, or bottom of the tape window.

  • Note Selection and De-selection: Clicking anywhere in the body of a note now selects it (notice how the Note Bar changes color) and clicking anywhere on the tape perforation now de-selects all selected notes.
