Home Computer Magazine, the free, online-only
publication I wrote about a while back continues to
provide excellent advice and information. They now have a
daily tip to make Windows work a bit better.
In today's tip, they point to a free tool that addresses one of the most glaring problems in Windows Explorer - the
lack of a keyboard shortcut to create a new folder.
I know, I know - it's right on the task pane. But I'm a keyboard/ActiveWords kind of guy. And now, with
bxNewFolder from
BaxBEx Software, I have my fix. bxNewFolder adds a "New Folder"
button to the toolbar of Windows Explorer. It also provides a hotkey (F12) to create a new folder within the Explorer
quickly.
While you're checking this great little tool out, you might also want to take a look at
FolderBox which displays additional folders in the lower part
of Explorer and lets you display the contents of two folders at once. You can set-up and configure up to five
FolderBoxes over the tab sheets of the FolderBox extension. Additional drives and folders are now just a mouse click
away. FolderBox is also free (home use only). A Pro version ($15.00) provides the ability to view up to 10 folders,
licenses the tool for commercial use, and adds a toolbar button to toggle the FolderBox view on and off (as opposed to
a trip to the View menu).
