Microsoft's AntiSpyware utility is a very nice piece of work. This doesn't come as a real surprise - it is, after
all, based on a mature product that the company acquired from GIANT Software in December.
I like to think I run a clean system. I use a
layered defense approach against spyware, using multiple tools to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. I've seen
the devastation truly nasty spyware programs can wreak on an unprotected system and have what I like to think is a
suitable level of paranoia in place.
Despite all of the tools I run on a regular basis, and the fact that I do the bulk of my browsing in Firefox these
days, MS AntiSpyware found a piece of spyware on my system that had been missed by my current combination of Ad-Aware,
Spybot Search & Destroy, and Spyware Blaster.
I was impressed both with the speed (a scan of my system took about six minutes) and the fact that I was able to
work in other applications while the scanning took place without the usual jitters that deep scanning often causes. I
have used antivirus and antispyware programs that chew up system resources and thrash the hard drive so badly that it's
nearly impossible to get any serious work done while they're active. Not so with this tool.
The utility offers a nice interface to examine all running processes and to clean temporary files and tracking lists
from a long list of applications as a nice bonus. All in all, a worthy addition to my toolkit.

21. Marc, I'd also done the validation thing a while ago, when I downloaded Photo Story 3, but it challenged me again today. No big deal though, just did it again.
Re screen res and fonts, I wear glasses and can't see a damn thing at normal size on a hi-res screen! So my tradeoff is 110% and being able to see stuff but some apps with strange display results :)
