The OpenOffice project is nearing release of version 2.0 of their open source office suite. A
preview release is now vailable for
download. The Register has a
review and finds a lot to look including improved compatibility
with Microsoft Office files, a new embedded Java-based database engine, and incredibly quick launch times using the new
"Quick Starter" utility.
